Four Months Away… And We’re Ready to Get Back to Australia 🇦🇺

Four months.

That’s how long it’s been since we left Australia.

And after four months of travelling through New Zealand, Bali, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam, something has become very obvious…

We’re really, really looking forward to getting back. 🇦🇺

It’s funny because Australia isn’t home for us. We left the UK back in February with no idea quite how this crazy adventure would unfold, and Australia was simply the first chapter.

But somewhere during those first few months, Australia got under our skin.

And now, after everything we’ve seen since, we’re finding ourselves missing the little things.

I’m already looking forward to those early morning walks along the beach.

Getting out before everyone else is awake. That cool morning air. The sound of the waves. Walking for miles with absolutely nowhere we need to be.

And the wildlife.

Oh, the wildlife.

One of the things we loved most about Australia was how normal it was to stumble across something completely ridiculous.

A kangaroo just hanging around.

Pelicans gathered around a lake looking like they’re deciding who gets thrown out of the club.

A random wallaby appearing from nowhere.

Birds we’d never seen before turning up beside the road.

You don’t necessarily need to go anywhere to have an adventure in Australia. Half the time, the adventure just finds you.

And then there are the road trips.

We’ve genuinely missed the feeling of driving through Australia with no idea what’s around the next corner.

Seeing a sign for a waterfall and thinking, “Well… we’re obviously turning there.”

Following a random road because it looks interesting.

Stopping somewhere that wasn’t on the itinerary.

Finding a viewpoint, a beach, a swimming hole or some completely unexpected little corner of the country that you’d never have known existed if you’d simply followed the quickest route.

That’s the Australia we fell in love with.

And, of course…

The pies.

😂

There are only so many months of travelling Asia before you suddenly find yourself thinking about a proper Australian bakery pie like it’s some kind of emotional support food.

And I already know there’s going to be a moment when we walk into a bakery, see the cabinet full of pies, sausage rolls and all the other glorious bits of Australian bakery nonsense…

…and realise just how much we’ve missed it.

But more than anything, I think we’re looking forward to the feeling of space.

Australia gave us that.

The beaches.

The open roads.

The huge skies.

The wildlife.

The little towns.

The national parks.

The feeling that you can jump in a car in the morning with a vague idea of where you’re going and somehow end up having the best day you’ve had in weeks.

We’ve had an incredible four months since we left.

We’ve eaten food we’d never heard of, met amazing people, explored places we never imagined we’d visit and collected enough stories to fill a book.

But travelling doesn’t mean every place has to compete with every other place.

Some places just leave a mark.

Australia did that for us.

And now, after four months away, we’re heading back with a completely different perspective.

We know what we loved.

We know what we missed.

And we know exactly what we’re going to do when we get back.

Early morning beach walks.

Wildlife spotting.

Road trips.

Waterfalls.

Random turnoffs.

Ridiculous adventures.

And probably an irresponsible number of pies.

🇦🇺🐨

Australia… we’re coming back.

And bloody hell, we can’t wait.
